  Media, culture and people who awed me in 2010
  #8 Audrey Kawasaki

  From the moment I first discovered Audrey’s work in 2006 she has awed me.  Audrey has consistently held my imagination in her grasp as I’ve watched her spin an ever more intricate web of narrative in each series of paintings she does.  For me, personally, the piece above, She Entwined from her Australian ‘Entangled’ show, is a pinnacle of all the things I have come to love about Audrey’s work.  It has all of Audrey’s trademarks - the beautiful girl with the hooded, invited gaze,  the languid sensuality, the warm colors like blushing skin and the intricate, detailed lines, the unabashed female sexuality.  The women cavorting in the waves of hair are reminiscent of the playful eroticism of the naughtiest Rococo paintings.

  Focusing on just one piece of her work feels like cheating, because all her paintings are like pieces of a big puzzle.  Yuuwaku (which was on the cover of Hi-Fructose Magazine) with its mystery and seduction, and Negaigoto, predator and prey, intricate lines like lace.  Audrey’s delicacy is especially apparent in her woodcutting, as seen in Plucked.  After what she did this year, I can not wait to see what she achieves next year.

  レジ打ちの人がとっさに行った対応は素晴らしいけれど、こういう話が「美談」の形で上司から現場に語られてしまうと、今度はそれが、暗黙に「当たり前」の水準になってしまう。

  「結果オーライ」は素晴らしいことだけれど、たまたま上手く行ったそうした事例を、そのまま美談として現場にアーカイブしていくと、賃金は変わらないくせに、仕事に対する要求水準だけが信じられない勢いで上昇していく。美談は結局、現場の首を締めて、今までだったら平均点であった振る舞いは落第点になり、偶然が成し遂げた素晴らしい成果が最低水準となり、そこで働く人たちは、常に「落第」し続けることになる。

  話の説明がうまい人は資料をなるべく使わない

  とにかく第一のポイントはここかもしれない。

  ストレートにいうと、リアルタイムで書いて説明する人。
  この説明が凄くわかり易い。

  資料はあとで読んどいてくらいの「資料放置プレイ」。

  頭の中で言いたい事をもちろん資料にびっしり書いたのでしょうが、資料を見ちゃうと説明が頭に入らないし、読みながら説明されると、別に今説明しなくても資料みりゃわかるよという気持ちにさせてくれる。

  要点のみをきっちり説明してくれる人はうまいなぁと思いました。
